Adventure Photo Contest Winners

Outex, Joby, and Lowepro are excited to announce the winners of the Adventure Photo contest.
It was a difficult process that included a 2-round process; first of a popular vote to select the finalists, and second by a panel of judges representing each company to select the top 5 winners.

Here are the top five winners:

1st Prize; Beautiful World
Photographer:  Martin Paldan
Equipment:  Canon EOS 1 Ds Mark III Canon 17-40mm (on 17mm)
Description:  Danish climber Kristoffer Szilas on "Sabotørfossen" - in Norway. In order to capture this photo I climbed ahead on fixed ropes carrying photo-gear + a 60 m static rope for rigging. I´m hanging out in the open on a rope and watching Szilas progress through my camera. This is adventure!

2nd Grey Mist
Photographer:  Ben Cirulis
Equipment: Canon 6D + 16-35mm @ 16mm f /7.1 1/200 sec ISO 100
Description:  Point Perpendicular is the definition of the word epic as far as crags go. From the committing abseil over the edge to the base of the climb, to the wind sometimes so strong that it neutralises gravity and a rope thrown down comes straight back up. Adrenaline is guaranteed during the climb up the sandstone, but the views from the top out over the Pacific Ocean are always worth it. I took this photo of Alice while belaying her up Grey Mist (17)

3th Small Fish Big Pond
Photographer:  Cole Yamane
Equipment: Pentax K5 IIS - DA* 60-250mm
Description: Surfer- Joao De Macedo (Right) Water Photographer- Clifford Nies (Left) I took this shot right before they both made the 40 foot + plunge into the cold/murky waters of Northern California. This shot really puts things into perspective for me, we as humans are so minute.

4th Keystone River Falls
Photographer:  Chris Higgins
Equipment: D7000, Sigma 10-20, Outex (of course) and Press 25 flash bulbs
Description:  246' Pit in Keystone River Cave with a massive waterfall during flood conditions!

5th Yosemite Coyote
Photographer:  Madeline Davis
Equipment: Nikon D7000
Description:  While driving around Yosemite with my family last summer, this guy was standing right on the side of the road.

All 5 winners will receive prizes totaling $2500 from Joby, Lowepro, and Outex.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the process, all of the participants, those who voted for the finalists, our award-winning panel of judges, and the Lowepro, Joby, and Outex teams.  It took a little longer than anticipated to validate the voting process, and to coordinate the finalist judging process.  We look forward to similar events in the near future.

The top 5 winners will be contacted for prize redemption.  If you have questions, feel free to contact support@outex.com for funneling to the appropriate parties.

Lake Malawi Sunset

Title:  Lake Malawi Sunset

Photographer:  Ben Cirulis

Equipment: Canon 60D + EF-S 17-85mm @ 85mm, 1/60 sec f/5.6 ISO 400

Description:  I took this in December 2011 during a trip to Malawi working with the charity Ripple Africa. It’s a place called Mwaya beach on the western shore of Lake Malawi, captured in a moment of perfect serenity. The lake can take on so many personalities. Only the day before, fierce winds whipped up meter high waves across the 50km wide expanse of water. Twenty-four hours later it was incredibly peaceful, the lake just melting into the sky at the horizon.
